Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union 286 was chartered in 1923. Our jurisdiction covers much of the Central Texas area, which includes the following counties: Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop, Caldwell, Blanco, Burnet, Llano, San Saba, Lampasas, Bell, Lee and Mason. We represent over 1,300 union-trained plumbers and pipefitters and are affiliated with the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry of the United States and Canada.
Our members are highly trained craftsmen who fabricate, install and service piping systems. They may be found on jobsites involving single-family homes, garden and high-rise apartment buildings, large and small office buildings, supermarkets, food warehousing and processing facilities, power plants, chemical installations, factories, public buildings and healthcare facilities.
Local 286 represents its members by providing job information, training programs and quality fringe benefits. We are also an important resource for contractors and owners.

The Plumbers and Pipefitters Apprenticeship Program is jointly sponsored by the Mechanical Contractors Association of Austin, Inc. and Local Union 286 of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada.
The program is administered by the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 286 Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, which is comprised of six members, three from each of the parent organizations.
The program is recognized by the Texas Education Agency, the Veterans Administration, the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, and the U.S. Department of Labor, as being an established facility for the training of plumbers and pipefitters in this geographical area.
