Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 178 represents over 400 Union-trained plumbers, pipefitters, steamfitters, refrigeration fitters, and service technicians in the state of Missouri. Our parent organization is the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry of the United States and Canada based in Annapolis, MD.

Our members are highly-trained craftsmen who fabricate, install and service residential, commercial, and industrial piping systems. Local 178 provides highly-trained craftsmen for any size project in the region. From process piping, plumbing, steam fitting, and refrigeration to medical gas, hydraulics, and welding.
Services

UA Local Union 178 and the union contractors have always made it top priority to provide quality training to journeymen and apprentices at their state-of-the-art training center.
Graduates of the five-year apprentice training program can continue their education through journeyman certification courses.
With all of this quality training available, it's no wonder our Local 178 members are considered the most talented and well-respected plumbers, pipefitters and technicians in the area.
Certification courses are offered September through April and are conveniently scheduled during the evening.
For over 100 years, the UA has made it their priority to train the most highly-qualified workers in the United States.
Each year, they spend over $100 million on training programs and work continually to improve and expand their educational opportunities.
Not only do apprentices learn how to handle any job in the Pipe Trades, but they also gain a much more important understanding of how to attack tough challenges and develop problem-solving strategies.
Only the UA workforce completes rigorous training and maintains the highest safety standards in the industry.

Since we train our members through our programs, you don't need to have prior experience in any trade to apply - just a willingness to learn.
Once you're in the program, you create your own path based on your personal goals, from apprentice journey worker to Foreman or Superintendent, to Project Manager, or even an independent contractor/owner.
